Success Is A Feeling

What would it feel like to be successful in your business?
Have you thought about it that way?
What if the indicators of success were made up completely by you?

Many of my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed with how they will make their businesses financially sustainable.

While having financial goals is an important piece of the puzzle, I have noticed that even when the money is in the bank, that doesn't mean you will feel successful.

Why is that?

I have a hunch it's because our culture has a tendency to put the pressure on to say it's never enough. We need more security, more systems, more growth, blah blah blah.

Is that true?

What if what we really need is more joy, connection, and space for creativity?

AND

What if focusing on those indicators of success would help the bottom line?

Happy Friday,
Jen

Freedom

When I think about the freedom I want most for myself and for you…

it's freedom from suffering.

Suffering from thoughts that make us feel like we’re somehow not enough, or that there isn’t enough or that any good measure of success starts and ends with our financial statements.

Suffering from ideas that the weight of the world,  family or business rests solely on our shoulders.

Suffering because a mindset of productivity and responsibility without balance, leads to results of disconnection and overwhelm.

Suffering because we know that inequities of freedom for “some” are at the cost of freedom for all and sometimes we feel powerless to affect change- even in ourselves.

As we enter a weekend intended to celebrate America’s independence and freedom, I invite us to consider if our freedom is in balance or if we are shackled to ideas or ideals that actually create less freedom in our lives or the lives of...

Putting YOU on the Front Burner

personal leadership Apr 16, 2021

Are you constantly putting the needs of work, family, or friends ahead of your own?

Do you feel your energy slowly leaking away?

Is there anything that you dream about, that you keep putting on the back burner?

What if you knew with absolute certainty that taking care of yourself first was the best strategy for success at work, with family and friendships?

Would you then put you on the front burner?

And what does that even mean?

I have a hunch that you already know.

Happy Friday:)

Love,

Jen

Rocking Chair

personal leadership Jan 29, 2021

Years ago,  one of my mentors was talking me through a challenging situation and she asked me:

“when you are 90 years old sitting in your rocking chair on the porch,

will this situation be one of the things you reflect on?

Is this a rocking chair moment?”

This brief conversation has stayed with me and has helped me navigate difficult decisions ever since.

It also gave me a focal point for envisioning my life at 90.

First, do I want to be sitting in a rocking chair on my porch?

Yes, very much.

With a cup of coffee or tea, just observing life and nature around me- feeling connected to it all.  That sounds perfect.

I'm not sure if I will need to reflect on big adventures or big achievements as much as I want to be comfortable in that space- in my own skin, hoping that I did more good then harm in my life and feeling the peace of forgiveness and acceptance and gratitude.

When I picture little old me in this space- I feel permission...

Just Enough

personal leadership Jan 22, 2021

Just this morning as our 14 year old was making plans to meet up with friends outside, I turned to my husband Josh and said,

"I don't know if I'm strong enough to be a parent of a teenager".

Truth is, I'm scared.

Terrified really.

Of his actions and his peers'.

Of the world he's launching into.

And there's more...

I'm both sad and excited.

Sad because I have loved being his mom and I can feel like this precious time is slipping by AND excited because our relationships are deepening, we are having awesome (and awkward) conversations and I can see a pathway toward a lifetime of connection.

I can also see that my thoughts & fears are normal and expected during these years AND  that I have a choice in which thoughts I focus on.

I don't know what the future holds for any of us, but I do know that I want and choose to trust that my strength, my love, and my intention will be just...

Pressure Release

personal leadership Apr 24, 2020

"I want to wake up every day and do whatever comes in my mind, and not feel pressure or obligations to do anything else in my life." -Michael Jordan

I was texting with a colleague  and she asked me how it was going homeschooling my son, while trying to run a business.

My response was that it is going "well".

"Really?"

She didn't believe me and said...."Is that true?"

My response:  Absolutely, because I'm not putting too much pressure on him or myself or anything for that matter.

I realized that this is actually my mantra right now....to release the pressure.

on my son,
on my business,
on my expectations of others,
on my marriage,
on my ability to keep a clean house,
on myself.

My metrics for how things are going may fall well below other people's thoughts, standards or expectations.

But I know this is a crucial strategy because I'm finding there is so much tenderness to be present for in the moment, right now.

Too much pressure to perform, to endure, to be...
